Water Not Draining or Draining too Fast
Usually, the solution to this is to adjust the valve underneath the pipe. We always want it turned so it is just barely open. To make it drain appropriately you must just barely turn the valve until it slowly drips.
QUICK PATCH: If you are in a hurry, (i.e. game coming up and no time to slowly drip empty), open the valve all the way (likely turn it vertically) and empty all the water. Then, set it closed completely perpendicular. This way, you know it will work for at least the next game, but it will not drain and you must adjust it after the next game when you have time.
Replacing the valve
Replacing the valve should not be your first choice if it is just stuck. You can likely get it unstuck even if you have to use a lot of force to do so. This is only for when the valve is broken! For example: The handles of the valve have snapped and there is no way to interact with it anymore.
If it is your first time replacing this valve, you might just have to saw it off. The original build team glued them in place, but, you likely have extra length of pipe so we’re going to just cut it off.
- First, get another valve of the same size. Measure your pipe and go to the PVC section of your local hardware store.
-
Then, remove the entire fountain from the wall. We need to access the pipe because we are about to cut it. There are screws on the inside on the left and right.

- Shimmy the fountain bottom out of the way
- Remove all water and bucket.
- If the valve is stuck closed, then keep an empty bucket handy under you while you work since water will come out once you remove the old valve.
-
Using a hacksaw, or more ideally a PVC saw, cut right above the valve where it attaches to the pipe.
If the valve has been replaced previously, then you can just pop off the old valve and continue from here:
- Attach a new valve, maybe use a rubber mallet if you can to get it on there snug
- The valve should have a tight, secure fit without any leaks
- If it is leaking though, you can also use PVC cement or similar to attach it permanently but eventually with all the sawing you’ll run out of pipe to cut off once you’ve replaced this two or three times!
