Preparing a cork

By default, the cork does not want to go in the bottle. We will need to shave down a cork in order to get it to fit. You can physically whittle a cork down using a knife of some sort but make sure whatever you’re doing keeps your hands away from the knife and never cut towards yourself.

Alternatively you might also impale the cork on a flat drill bit and use sand paper on the edges while it spins. You'll look insane but that's what I do.

Whatever method you use, if you find something that works, go ahead and do several of them so you don’t have to do it again next time!
